GOLDEN WORLD RECORDS

Operating from 1962 to 1968, Golden World Records was the label and recording studio owned and operated by Ed Wingate and Joanna Bratton (the widow of boxing champion Johnny Bratton). First located on 12th Street in Detroit (now known as Rosa Parks Blvd), the studio and offices occupied the southern corner of the building on the first floor. Later the studio moved to West Davison. In 1966 Barry Gordy purchased Golden World Records and incorporated it into the Motown Record Corporation. The building on West Davison eventually became Motown Studio B and up until a couple of year's ago, the Motown logo could still be seen on the building. The building has since been demolished.

Golden World Records produced hits by The Shades of Blue, The Capitols, Willie Kendrick, Edwin Starr, Sue Perrin, The Reflections, and The Debonaires.

Ed Wingate's home on Buena Vista was listed as the primary address for both the record label and for the corporate HQ.

After being purchased by Motown, Wingate went on to produce at Tera Shirma Studios and United Sound Systems.
