D-69 FAIRVIEW PARK (Ohio)
At one time this base was huge. It was designed to protect both Detroit and Cleveland from incoming missiles and bombs. The base was long abandoned before I was born but living in Fairview Park as a kid, we used to explore parts of the base that later became a police academy. But I remember as a kid being told that the serial square dips in the ground at Bolkein Park were where the missile magazines had been removed and filled in with dirt. I also remember the IFC towers but had no idea what they were for.
All that remains of this massive Nike Missile base is Tri-City Park on the border between Westlake, Rocky River and Fairview Park. The area now occupied by Tri-City Park used to house the assembly shed, fuel barn, maintenance shed, and generator building. The generator building is now the restroom facility at the park.
