Campus Ballroom

Once a popular hang-out and dance-hall for students attending Mercy College, now known as the University of Detroit - Mercy, the Campus Ballroom was the place to go in the early 1940's for swing and big band music.

Gould Department Store used to occupy the ground floor.

Later in the life of the dance spot, Detroit DJ "Frantic" Ernie Durham operated a record shop on the ground floor of the building while maintaining the ball-room as a dance club. George Clinton and Parliament as well as The Funkadelics are rumored to have at least at one time called the Campus Ballroom home.
