Cadillac Motor Company

Cadillac was a car company established by Henry Leland (who also formed the Lincoln Motor Company) and occupied a huge swath of land that extended south from the Michigan Central Railroad tracks to Antoinette and spanned from Woodward Avenue west to 2nd Avenue. Little of this massive industrial complex remains today with much of it being razed for new buildings as part of Wayne State University's Tech Town corridor. One shining remainder, however, is the former sales and HQ building. Located on the corner of York and Cass, this white granite building still retains an edifice at the top complete with the Cadillac crest of arms. This building not only housed the main offices, but also a sales showroom on the first and second floors, and a service repair center on the fourth floor. Now located near the corner of West Forest and Cass Avenue, the studios of radio station WDET 101.9 FM used to occupy the basement of this building.
One last note, the property upon which Cadillac used to sit was also home to the Henry Ford Motor Company, Henry Ford's failed second attempt at setting up an automobile manufacturing business.
